Privacy policy

Kiteday is an app for finding events near you and organizing your own. This policy explains what information we collect and why, who we share it with, and your rights.

Information we collect

  • Account: your phone number (for signing in), name, username, profile photo, short bio and area.
  • Gender: only used to check who can join "women only" events. It is not shown on your profile and other users cannot see it.
  • Interests: to suggest events that suit you.
  • Location: the Map and Discover screens use your device’s location; your exact location never leaves your phone. To tell you about new events nearby, we only store your approximate area: at neighbourhood level by default (about 1 km). In Settings → Location precision you can switch to city level (about 10 km) or turn it off entirely and delete the stored area.
  • Events: events you create, events you join, your ticket codes and when they were scanned at the entrance.
  • Messages: what you write in event chats and one-to-one conversations, photos you add to albums, and the ratings and reviews you give.
  • Social: people you follow, people who follow you, and people you block.
  • Notifications: your device’s notification address (push token) and your notification preferences, so we can send notifications to your phone.

How we use it

To run your account, show and manage events, handle joining and waitlists, enable messaging, send notifications that matter to you (approvals, chat messages, weather alerts, new events nearby), and protect the app from abuse. We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell it.

What other users can see

Your name, username, profile photo, bio, area, the events you organize, your name on the attendee lists of events you join, and the ratings and reviews you receive as an organizer are visible to other users. An event chat is visible to that event’s attendees; one-to-one messages are only visible to the person you are talking to.

Service providers

  • Supabase: account, database and photo storage infrastructure.
  • Expo and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging / Apple Push Notification Service: to deliver notifications to your phone.
  • MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute): for weather alerts, an event’s location and time are sent (not your personal information).
  • OpenFreeMap: map images. When you open the map, your device downloads map tiles from this service.
  • Google Places: when you search for a venue, neighborhood or city, what you type and the map’s approximate location are sent to Google to show suggestions. To look up addresses we use your phone’s own service or OpenStreetMap (Nominatim).
  • An SMS provider for phone sign-in (sending verification codes).

Retention and deleting your account

Your information is kept while your account is open. You can permanently delete your account at any time with Settings → "Delete my account". This deletes your profile, the events you organized, your messages, photos, ratings and all your other information, and cannot be undone.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your information and to object to its processing, under applicable data protection law (such as Turkey’s Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data, and the EU GDPR where it applies). You can edit your profile and delete your account in the app. For other requests, contact us at [email protected].

Children

Kiteday is not designed for people under 18.

Changes

When we update this policy, we will announce it in the app. For significant changes we may ask for your consent.
